How Stress Affects Your Spine, and how chiropractic may help!
Stress and the Nervous System
Stress isn’t just a mental or emotional experience, it’s stored in the body as patterns of tension. When you feel stressed your nervous system adapts by creating protective patterns and can sometimes lock tension into certain areas of your spines, your muscles brace for impact. You may notice tight shoulders, a stiff neck, or lingering back pain. That’s because stress triggers your body’s "fight or flight" response, causing muscles to tense as a protective mechanism. Over time, this tension leads to poor posture, misalignments in the spine, and even chronic pain.
Your body responds to stress by tightening muscles. Over time, this creates patterns of tension in your spine, which can lead to:
Poor posture
Headaches
Fatigue
Trouble sleeping
Irritability (especially in kids)
Lower back pain
Migraines
How Chiropractic Can Help
Chiropractic adjustments help release tension and improve nervous system function to help the body handle and manage stress that may be impacting it, physically and emotionally.
Along side adjustments, we also use Neuro Emotional Technique (NET) to gently support emotional wellbeing and help the body let go of stored stress.
While all humans can feel stress, it is important that we check people of all ages, from pregnant mums to newborns and growing kids, as we modify our techniques and styles to match the ages and bodies in front of us.
Here are our Daily Tips for Reducing Tension:
Sit tall with feet flat and shoulders relaxed
Stretch or move every 30 to 60 minutes
Adjust your screen and chair to support posture
Take deep breaths to calm your body and mind
